Pronghorn and Aoudad
Pronghorn Antelope are one of Texas' best kept secrets. Pronghorn are found in West Texas as well as the Texas Panhandle. The Texas pronghorn season is only 9 days long and begins on the Saturday closest to October 1st. After TPWD completes their annual survey, they issue the pronghorn permits to the landowner. With a limited number of permits available each year and the permits being controlled by the landowner, pronghorn hunts have become very sought after in Texas.
Pronghorn hunts are some of the most fun and exciting hunts that Double Diamond Outfitters offers. We hunt pronghorn on a 31,000 acre ranch in West Texas between Ft. Davis and Kent. Most of our hunting is done out of a 4 seat dune buggy so we can cover a lot of country and see a lot of pronghorn. Hunting a working cattle ranch with very little hunting pressure it's not uncommon for us to see 100+ pronghorn in 1 day. Unlike most pronghorn, the pronghorn on this ranch are pretty calm and curious which allows us to commonly have shots inside of 200 yards. With these pronghorn and the numerous water troughs around the ranch, this is also an ideal opportunity for a ground blind set up for any bowhunter.
Also available on this ranch are free range aoudad and barbado sheep. We hunt the aoudad and barbado sheep in the mountainous part of the ranch. Once again we use the dune buggy to cover a lot of country and locate the aoudad or barbado, but once we locate the sheep we get out of the dune buggy and begin our spot and stalk. This makes for some very exciting, but challenging hunting. Shots range from 150 - 400+ yards, so bring a flat shooting rifle and comfortable hiking boots.
We have a limited number of pronghorn permits available each year, and they go quickly. To book a hunt go here.
